MBA Class Exceeds 100 for the 1st Time

The 2012 academic year symbolises growth for the NMMU Business School, having admitted its largest ever class to the MBA programme and growing 69% over the last year. The Business School received a total of 1 616 enquiries throughout the application season, converting 329 of these enquiries into actual applications (286 MBA + 43 BBA/ABP). Once their applications were approved, all applicants were subjected to the remainder of the intensive application process by having to write a psychometric test and undergo a one-on-one interview. Professor’s Kobus Jonker and Paul Poisat, as well as Dr Margaret Cullen presented information sessions about these programmes and interviewed each applicant in the Gauteng, East London, George and Port Elizabeth offices. Our resident psychometrist, Dr Annelie Pretorius conducted the psychometric testing in the different regions.

As a result of these efforts, the NMMU Business School now boasts a first year class of 158 students (41% acceptance rate), the highest number of students to be enrolled across these three programmes in the history of the Business School. National interest in the NMMU MBA continues to increase, especially in our satellite offices located in Gauteng, East London and George.

The MBA is a qualification desired by many. Key motivating factors behind the decision to apply for the MBA degree include, amongst others, the desire for career advancement and self-improvement. The NMMU MBA is appealing to prospective applicants who take decision making factors such as value for money, service quality and flexibility and convenience in terms of payment options and programme delivery points (Port Elizabeth, East London, George and Gauteng) into account.

In his application essay, 2012 first year MBA student, Justin Elliot said “Everyone has a different story. For me, I can say it was a battle royal, featuring personalities, passion and education, with an eye-opening finale worth more than money or skill could buy.” Justin goes on to mention the ups and downs of his life by dividing his life into four rounds and throughout this journey his hunger to surpass himself is obvious. The NMMU MBA is the beginning of what Justin referred to as Round four of his life, “Round four has begun, and I mean to succeed.” he concluded.

Congratulations and all the best to those enrolled for the NMMU MBA’s 2012 class.
