Port Elizabeth, 21 August 2014 - The incredible story of the Umzi Wethu Training Academy for Vulnerable Youth is the subject of an OXFAM case study, which was launched in Port Elizabeth last night. Umzi Wethu, which means “our home” in isi-Xhosa, is an initiative of the internationally-renowned Wilderness Foundation.

Prestigious Recognition at World Economic Forum for NMMU Business School Board Member

Mr Andrew Muir, environmental activist and member of the NMMU Business School Advisory Board, has been named Social Entrepreneur of the Year in Africa 2012. The award was announced at the World Economic Forum (WEF) on Africa in Addis Ababa by The Schwab Foundation last night (9 May 2012).

Family Business Unit research wins best paper award

Three members of the NMMU Family Business Unit attended the 11TH IFERA World Family Business Research Conference in Palermo Sicily from June 28 – July 1 2011. Papers were presented by Prof Venter, Dr Cullen and Dr Farrington.  A paper by Venter, Farrington and Matabooe won the conference Best Paper Award. The conference provided Family Business Unit faculty with global networking and relationship building opportunities.

NMMU Business School GMSA Tradex

NMMU Business School will receive a new 2012 Chevrolet Captiva from General Motors South Africa in a continuation of their tradex agreement.  The School is responsible for fuel and insurance, whilst GMSA carries maintenance and services.  The prestigious vehicle is an effective marketing tool for the School and is used for official functions.  GMSA receives free executive education in consideration for their investment in the relationship.

NMMU Business School supported the SABMiller Kickstart programme, a poverty alleviation programme and platform to stimulate sustainable enterprise development. KickStart promotes business awareness through training, supplying grants as start-up capital and providing post-training mentorship and assistance during the setting-up phase of the business for individuals from historically disadvantaged communities.  Winners of the business plan competition won vouchers to attend executive education courses at the NMMU Business School.
