This conference is an extension of a series of workshops on Lean Manufacturing that have been hosted by the NMMU Business School since 2004 and will feature the popular UK expert on Lean Manufacturing, John Bicheno.

John Bicheno is the author of several books on various aspects of Lean implementation. "The concept of Lean Manufacturing originated at Toyota and results in a smooth, steady flow of goods or processes with the minimum of waste in effort and resources. In recent years Lean has been adopted in a variety of enterprises such as services, healthcare and banking. Owing to its increasing implementation in industry and its ability to drastically improve the efficiency of business, the NMMU Business School recognised the need to host a conference around Lean Manufacturing," said Professor Pieterse.
