Another successful Integrated African Leadership Elective

From the 14th – 17th of May 2013, 47 MBA students attended the Integrated African Leadership elective module on the NMMU Bird Street Campus. In 2012, the module was unanimously chosen by the students as the best MBA elective, and this year was no different. According to the Graduate School’s Research Director, Prof Cecil Arnolds, the knowledge shared in the module was “positively and enthusiastically received”. He continuous by saying that the Business School “has had very good feedback about the module from both the students and presenters.”

Two highly impactful guest lecturers were Dr Iraj Abedian, CEO of Pan-African Capital Holdings; and Professor Kwandiwe Kondlo, currently a research professor at the University of Johannesburg in the Faculty of Business Management. Prof Arnolds is co-ordinating the module, while Ms Rosalie Wallace, a trained sociologist and experienced leadership consultant, is also lecturing on the module

Dr Abedian lectured on Africa’s place in the world economy and what business leadership should and could do to improve Africa’s economic development. Professor Kondlo discussed the link between politics and economics.

The above guest lecturers as well as Professor Mike Hoffmeister (Director of the International Summer University in Wolfsburg, Germany) and Professor Patrick Gunnigle (Professor of Business Studies and current Marie Curie IRSES Scholar) are in the process of being appointed as visiting professors at the NMMU Business School.
