NMMU Business School Honoured at Asia's Best Business School Awards in Singapore
Singapore, 23 July 2012 – South Africa’s Nelson Mandela Metropolitan
University Business School has received a prestigious “Business School
Leadership Award” at the 3rd annual Asia’s Best Business School
Awards in Singapore, organized by CMO Asia and the World Brand Congress.
According to CMO Asia, the award “pays tribute to leading business schools that
are shaping the destinies of the future leaders who will make this world a
better place to live”. Dr Margie Cullen received the award on behalf of
the School. Several leading professors in scholarly disciplines also were
recognised.
NMMU was the only African business school receiving an award, sharing the
spotlight with well-known business schools, such as Indian Institute of
Management, Singapore Management University, Nanyang Business School and Seoul National University.
Business schools were assessed in three stages. Professionals and scholars in
20 countries were interviewed to identify leading business schools.
Researchers then collated information concerning each School’s vision and
mission and indicators of quality outputs such as graduate placement and
faculty accomplishments. A jury of 15 Asian business leaders, commerce
and industry representatives selected winners.
Commenting on the award, NMMU Business School Director Prof Steve Burgess said, “We have embarked on a journey to build a new model of a business school that is alive to the realities of business leadership in Africa and the Indian Ocean Rim. This prestigious award comes at a time when we are about to break ground on Africa’s first 4-Star Green Star rated business school building. It will inspire our Graduate School and Leadership Academy to continue their hard work. We hope that our supporters in the University, in business and government, and in the wider community will join us in celebrating.“
